The Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series much anticipated return with had a sell-out capped field of 500 for Event #1 - $230 No Limit Holdem, enjoying a 10,000 Start Bank with 25-minute levels. Steve Topakas, Peter Aristidou, Trung Tran, Andrew Scott, Michael Chrisanthopolous and Karl Krautschneider were some of the notables to play but fall before the money was reached.
Following great starts Andrew Jeffreys, Trung Tran, Michael Bancroft and James Bernard were unable to continue their chip accumulation eventually falling short.
Late into the evening Matt Saphire emerged victorious over local Brian Hull to capture the $20,000 first prize and championship trophy.

Day Two | Monday 9 March 2009
Day two saw 131 players hit the felt for Event #2 - $230 Limit Holdem. Notables included regulars Andrew Demetriou, Steve Topakas, Peter Aristidou, Trung Tran, Vincent Wan, Andrew Scott, Paul Taylor and Leo Boxell.
It took a while to reach the first elimination, but as the evening wore on and the blinds increased, the players slowly dropped away. As of 1am there were still three tables in action with only the top 18 reaching the money. In the end it was Daniel Coghan who walked away with the title, trophy and $6,000 first place prize.
Meanwhile, the midday rebuy satellite drew 81 players, 198 rebuys and awarded 10 Main Event entries, taking the total number of pre-registered Main Event entrants to over 100.

Day Three | Tuesday 10 March 2009
Day three came Event #3 - $230 Pot Limit Omaha with 129 players, including some bigger names such as Emad Tahtouh, Dennis Huntly, Michael Guzzardi, James Potter and of course, Joe Hachem supporting the series named in his honour. They were joined by the likes of Peter Artistidou, David Morton, Trung Tran, Paul Taylor, Billy Seri, John Dalessandri and Brian Hull.
Once again the players were able to settle in for the long haul with starting stack of 10,000 and a second chance format, over 25 minute levels. However the action was fast as the field reduced to under the 100 player mark within the first few hours of play.
Late into the evening the fans on the rail were entertained with an interesting final table seeing Hachem arrive as chip leader, but we lost him in third place, sending Brian Hull into heads-up play with Paul Ramondetta. Hull’s big chip lead didn’t take long to eliminate Ramondetta, awarding Hull with the trophy and $6,500 top prize.

Day Four | Wednesday 11 March 2009
The fourth day brought a solid field of 279 entrants for Event #4 - $230 No Limit Holdem Turbo, creating a prize pool in excess of $55,000. The format saw players given only 30 seconds to act, which kept play moving quickly with plenty of hands dealt in each of the 25 minute levels.
Once again the regular tournament players were out in force with Dennis Huntly, Andrew Jeffreys, James Potter, Marwan Nassif, Paul Taylor, Peter Aristidou, Leo Boxell, Paul Khoury, Kim Peart and Karl Krautschneider amongst the field.
Another familiar face was Raj Ramakrishnan who was cruising along with a big stack until he ran into the bigger stack of Andrew Scott. Ramakrishnan was able to recover to reach the money while Scott enjoyed a spot on the final table.
In the end Brett Wilcock captured the title and $12,100 in prize money.

Day Five | Thursday 12 March 2009
Day five offered two different events for the budget-conscious player to enjoy. The day kicked off with Event #5 - $165 PokerPro No Limit Holdem at midday with 74 players, including Brian Hull, Rob Huxley, George Cotaidis, Trung Tran, Oliver Gill and Dom Italiano. The players were set for plenty of game time thanks to the 100,000 start banks and 20 minute levels.
Trung Tran was eliminated with two tables to go after his overpair ran into an opponent’s set in a massive 2 million chip pot, while Brian Hull was set for his third final table of the series before busting on the bubble. It was Ryan Matthews who emerged victorious to capture the trophy and $3,108 in prize money.
At 7:10pm, 256 players hit the felt for Event #6 - $340 No Limit Holdem Terminator. The healthy field was reduced to 17 players before it was decided to call it an evening and return tomorrow. Although one of the short stacks, Joe Hachem was miles in front with 11 terminator bounty buttons.

Day Six | Friday 13 March 2009
Day six of the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series saw two events take place in the Crown Poker Room kicking off with the first flight of Event #7 - $340 No Limit Holdem just after midday, followed by the conclusion of Event #6 - $340 Terminator.
With a 15,000 Start Bank and 131 runners in this Day One Flight One field, 12 levels would see 31 players remaining with some well known Crown frequenters making it through including Carey Ciuro, Andrew Oataway, Andrew Scott and Martin Harvey.
As Event #7 wrapped, the continuation of Event #6 was just beginning with 17 players taking to the felt to battle it out to see who would be crowned the ‘Terminator’. Joe Hachem continued his good run but was unable to make a repeat final table performance bowing out in 16th place. Local Koun Chhoy registered his third cash from as many events falling in seventh place.
Chris Barratt rode his short stack all the way to heads up play with David Munday, trading blows until a massive hand threw the ball into Munday’s court, finishing off Barratt to be crowned champion of Event #6 and pocket $12,544 after besting a field of 256 players.

Day Seven | Saturday 14 March 2009
The second flight of the Event #7 - $340 No Limit Holdem had a large field of 195, putting the total for the event to 326. Today’s field including the likes of Andrew Jeffreys, Manny Rodrigues, Paul Rochford, Andrew Demetriou, Peter Artistidou, Julius Colman, Antonio Casale, Daniel Neilson, Graeme Putt and Brian Hull.
The 15,000 start bank and 25-minute levels allowed players plenty of game time, with twelve levels played before the day was called with 72 players remaining. They will return tomorrow along with the 31 survivors from Flight One to play it out for the title.
Day Eight | Sunday 15 March 2009
103 players returned to battle out in Day Two of Event #7 - $340 No Limit Holdem, and with the top 32 being paid action was bound to be fast.
Carey Ciuro, Michael Bancroft, Andrew Scott, Andrew Demetriou, Manny Rodrigues and Antonio Casale turned their solid Day One play into a Day Two cash-in. However it was Raj Ramakrishnan to fall one place shy of his second final table of the year following his fourth placing in this year’s Aussie Millions Main Event.
Bong Vongsykeo and Martin Harvey continued their Day One rampage both making the final table, but falling short in sixth and ninth place respectively with Harvey being eliminated with more than a third of the chips on the line.
While play was wrapping up in Event #7, another was underway with Event #8 - $550 H.O.R.S.E. The usual stalwart of players showed up with Graeme Putt, David Morton, Peter Aristidou, Abel Cabrera, Billy Argyros, Leo Boxell and Michael Guzzardi being some of the 53 starters.
However one player that didn’t take part was Joe Hachem who was busy in a SNG with the Kings of Leon and Zac Efron, with Efron emerging victorious.
Putt made the final table, but bubbled falling in eighth place, however it was Ismail Ismail to notch up the story of the night. During the fifth level of play in the Razz orbit, Ismail was all in for his $100 ante and came out a winner, followed by winning the next two pots. Ismail rode that luck and fortune all the way to heads-up play where he dispatched German Paul Wagenschutz to see him hoist the trophy high and pocket $9,000 for his efforts.
