May in the Crown Poker Room can mean only one thing, it’s time for the Melbourne Poker Championship again! The team at Crown have released the schedule and as you would expect its jam packed with quality tournaments combined with some new innovations to test our poker skills.

There are 15 championship events on the schedule commencing on Sunday the 16th May with the sure to be popular opening event, a $175 No Limit Holdem tournament. For those who like a little more action than freeze out tournaments can provide then strap yourself in for event 2, a Rebuy tournament with a buy in of $50 with Rebuys only $25! The chips are sure to be flying around the table as players gamble it up to build a stack in the early stages. The first week of the championship also sees an affordable Pot Limit Omaha tournament and Event 4, the $230 Bounty Event.

Event 5 carries a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000 a guarantee that we can expect to see smashed with a buy in of only $240 and three chances to make Day 2 as Crown gives us the most affordable          Re-Repechage tournament yet.  In this format if you are eliminated in Flight 1 you can re-enter Flight 2 or 3, if you are eliminated in Flight 2 you can re-enter Flight 3 even if you have played in and been eliminated from both Flights 1 and 2. You can bet plenty of players will fire that third bullet if they are unlucky enough to be eliminated from both Flights 1 and 2.

Crown will also host another Ladies Night on Friday 21 April 2010 at 8.10pm, the large turnout for the ladies event at the Joe Hachem Deepstack has prompted Crown to include a $150 Ladies event and for the first time has included it as an official championship event. The success of another event at the Joe Hachem Deepstack, the multi discipline teams event may well have been the inspiration for Event 7 on the schedule, a $550 Heads Up tournament where the players will play both No Limit Holdem and Pot Limit Omaha in a true test of poker skill.

The Melbourne Championships last year had a “Morning Series” during week one, a series of affordable buy-in events with points awarded to the players who made the final tables. The top ten point scorers played off for a trophy and a seat in the Main Event. There won’t be a Morning series this year, players will be given the opportunity enjoy a sleep in, during week one this year there will be a “Midday Series”, this includes a series of $100 buy in No Limit Holdem tournaments where players who make the final table and finish in the top ten, will play off for Melbourne Championship Main Event seats.

During week two the action really heats up with a triple Chance PLO event and another No Limit Holdem/PLO Teams tournament, An 8-Game tournament and Terminator event, an affordable 6 Max event and for the high rollers, a High Stakes event.

The Main Event begins with Flight 1 on Thursday, 27 May 2010 at 7.10pm. The Main Event has a $1,100 buy in and follows the same format as Event 5, a Re-Repechage. This means that players can have up to three chances to progress to Day 2 and from there make their way to the final table and victory. In 2007 Hai Bo Chu overcame a field of 449 players to win the title. In 2008 it was James “Jabba” Broom who was the last standing of the 668 entrants. Last year there was 725 entrants and the title went north when Todor Kondevski from Sydney defeated Steve ”The Big Show” Topakas heads up, walking away with the trophy and $150,000.

The 2010 Melbourne Championship is just weeks away and everyone has the chance to become the next Champion. With an extensive satellite programme running at Crown including a warm up week from the 10 May 2010 players can satellite in from as little as $25.
